Philippe Clement update gives hint at Rangers transfer plan

There have been some bright moments in the two friendly fixtures but it is clear that Rangers still need to provide Philippe Clement with more ammunition.

The Gers boss had a better quality squad to call on against Copenhagen at Ibrox with a few gaps still evident though.

Philippe Clement has been speaking, at length, about the various Rangers players who have been out injured and those who might not be seen for some time.

Why Rangers have to back Philippe Clement

Ominously, it doesn’t look like strikers Danilo and Kemar Roofe will be seen anytime soon.

“The season has a long way to go, ask me if they will play again this season in two or three months, that’s a little bit early.”

If Clement is needing to wait two or three months to see if the pair will be fit, then one thing is clear.

Rangers need reinforcements sooner, rather than later.

There is no way that the board can possibly think that Philippe Clement can guide Rangers to a league title with our best two finishers unavailable and the gaffer has already said that Roofe’s prognosis will shape his decision making.

Fabio Silva looks good but he gives off the type of vibe that suggests he would be more suited to playing as a number ten.

He links play well, makes clever runs and works hard but we’ve yet to see what his composure is like in front of goal.

Cyriel Dessers can score goals but he is too inconsistent and can’t realistically be considered as the permanent long-term option.

Silva’s flexibility will see him play his part over the rest of the season but successful Rangers teams have always had a good mix of strikers.

A poacher, a natural goalscorer, someone who might not necessarily be as good at pressing but is capable of taking the one chance that he might get in a game.

With every day that passes, Lawrence Shankland becomes a better and better player.
