Peterborough chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, has responded on Twitter to questions on Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty and reported Gers target, Herbie Kane.

The EFL League One high-flyers have been linked with moves for both Docherty [Peterborough Telegraph] and Kane [Football Insider] recently.

However, MacAnthony has denied that the Posh are in for either player.

Asked if there was ‘any truth’ to the links, he responded: ‘None. Both players will go to Champ i’d imagine.’

The Peterborough owner then ventured to suggest where Kane will be going in January, and it’s not to Glasgow.

‘I’d bet a grand on him going to Hull in Jan’, he replied to a separate tweet asking about the Liverpool youngster.

Verdict

It’s not often you see owners of football clubs openly discussing transfer rumours on social media, but providing MacAnthony’s claims are genuine, his Q+A gives great insight into the complexities of player trading.

Earlier this week, we had suggested that a move to the Posh would be ideal for Greg Docherty. The frozen out midfielder thrived at Shrewsbury Town last season, and would likely relish the challenge of a promotion push under Darren Ferguson.

However, with their owner rubbishing the link, it looks likely that we can rule out London Road as a potential destination next month.

As for Kane, Rangers were linked with the 21-year-old in the summer [Football Insider] and again earlier this week [TEAMtalk]. However, while Steven Gerrard may well have an interest in bringing him to Ibrox, it seems the Gers are up against it.
