Rangers have been linked with a move for Scott McKenna in recent days with the need for a left-sided defender and an increase in home grown options.
The 27-year old is out of contract at the end of the season so will still command a fee if a pre-contract agreement can’t be achieved, a loss of £6m potentially for Nottingham Forest.
Rangers boss Phillip Clement will need to address this issue but Scott McKenna is another player who is available with an almost identical profile.

Rangers have alternative option to Scott McKenna
A Scotland international, trained at Auchenhowie, with experience of the Champions League and of life in the Premier League.
More impressive and what holds more weight, is the opinion of the late, great, Walter Smith who said of a player who broke through when he was Rangers manager:
“He is maybe getting a lot more games than he imagined he would this season but he has deserved it and he has played exceptionally well for us.”
You’ve probably already worked out who it is.
Danny Wilson broke through into Rangers first team when he was only 17-years old, not only that but he kept his place on merit.
David Weir held his hand and Madjid Bougherra was his biggest competition for game time but the quality of his play was so good that big things were expected.

A multi-million pound move to Liverpool didn’t work out before a return to the SPFL with Hearts saw him return to form and earn a second chance at Ibrox.
Now, at 32-years old, he finds himself in the same position as Scott McKenna, looking for a new club after leaving Colorado Rapids in MLS, a third spell at Rangers should be out of the question though.
Wilson is an anomaly in that his best years as a central defender were when he was younger.
He should have been a regular for Scotland but just didn’t kick on from the clear promise and potential that he demonstrated in his breakthrough years.
On paper, he probably would be a great option to replace an ageing Leon Balogun in terms of squad quotas but we would be better served looking for the next Danny Wilson instead.
