Birmingham City boss John Eustace has put a pin in Rangers links to Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson with the centre-back committed to St Andrews for the season.

Earlier reports had claimed that Rangers have watched Sanderson this season with the player a keen target for sporting director Ross Wilson and scout John Park.

On loan from Premier League Wolves, the 23-year-old certainly appears to fit the Michael Beale mould and the links to Dion Sanderson have had Rangers fans talking.

But now John Eustace – yes, that John Eustace – is claiming that the defender is contracted to Birmingham City until at least the end of the season.

“[Dion] is on loan with us until the end of the season, I haven’t been made aware of anything different,” said Eustace.

“He has signed to us until the end of the season and I am sure he will be here to the end of the season.

“He has been outstanding, a big miss [v Middlesbrough], you can see that.”

Rangers fans will remember Eustace for that infamous trial during Mark Warburton’s first season where the then veteran midfielder eventually failed to sign on at the club.

Speaking in the past, John Eustace has previously claimed that despite spending six weeks at Rangers things collapsed due to a knee issue.

“Mark tried to sign me a couple of times as a player,” said Eustace.

“When he was at Brentford, we spoke.

“And also when he went up to Glasgow Rangers. I went up there for six weeks when I left Derby and unfortunately I broke down with my knee.

“I’d left Derby with a bad knee problem. But the opportunity to go up there was too much to turn down and really, I shouldn’t have gone up, but that’s how we know each other.”

Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson has been on impressive form for Birmingham this season, making 24 appearances and scoring one goal with the Blues 17th in the table.

Sanderson isn’t the only defender being linked with a move to Rangers as the January window opens.
