One leading insider outlet has rebuffed claims that Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers is no longer interested in a move to Rangers or Scotland.

The 4th Official claim that after speaking with several sources on the situation, they do not “believe” claims that a deal for the 28-year-old Nigerian striker has now collapsed.

This comes after reports in Calcio Mercato in Italy had suggested a proposed deal between Rangers and Cremonese to take the former Genk striker to Ibrox had collapsed.

The Italian report had suggested that Cyriel Dessers would prefer to stay in Italy and that Rangers’ offer had been rebuffed by the striker.

This comes amid claims that Italian Serie A outfit Torino are now interested in the striker’s services and that Cremonese want £7m for the forward despite their relegation to Serie B.

Rangers hunt goals amid Cyriel Dessers blow claims

Rangers have been extensively linked with a move for the former Feyenoord striker all summer long and now there remains some confusion over a deal heading into the final week of June.

The Rangers squad are expected to return to Ibrox training at the end of June and as things stand Cyriel Dessers will not be joining them.

Rangers boss Michael Beale has been clear he wants his summer transfer business done early with crucial Champions League qualification matches on the horizon.

However, as things stand the club is yet to replace Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, ex-Liverpool winger Ryan Kent or Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman.

All three players bore the burden of goalscoring in the Rangers side last season and there are some nerves that the club has yet to replace their influence in the transfer market.

So far Rangers have signed midfielder Kieran Dowell, defender Dujon Sterling and goalkeeper Jack Butland on pre-contract moves, whilst goal-shy link-up striker Sam Lammers has also been signed from Atalanta.

The Dutch forward is not known for his goalscoring prowess and Rangers are still without the prolific forward options that will inspire confidence in bridging the title gap with Celtic.

Cyriel Dessers certainly represents an interesting option for Rangers, with the striker’s record in the Netherlands in particular an impressive one, but it remains unclear for now if a deal is actually still on the table or not.
