Once Rangers-linked Nottingham Forest talent Djed Spence is called up the England U21 squad as the right-back’s impressive form is recognised by Lee Carsley.

Djed Spence, 21, is on loan at the City Ground from Championship rivals Middlesbrough but this summer the defender was being linked with a move to Ibrox.

ESPN claimed that the Gers were one of several clubs interested in signing Spence alongside the likes of Premier League Everton and Wolves.

Starting his youth career at Fulham, Djed Spence would move to Middlesbrough in 2018 and despite making over 70 appearances for the Championship side made a surprise loan move to Forest this summer.

Since then Spence has gone on to play an influential role in Forest’s Championship and FA Cup campaigns, with Steve Cooper’s side late outsiders for a playoff place and set to face Liverpool in the FA Cup.

In total Djed Spence has made 36 appearances for Nottingham Forest this season, scoring three goals and laying on five assists, with this his first ever call-up to the England team at this level.

Have Rangers been priced out of Djed Spence move?

It’s a sign of the Rangers-linked full-back’s progress at club level, with Djed Spence now being valued at between £8.4m and £12.6m by Sky Sports in Germany.

On top of this, he’s now being mentioned alongside the likes of Bayern Munich in news that surely prices Rangers out of a move for the youngster.

One of the most hotly contested areas of the England squad, Djed Spence is up against it to make a breakthrough into the top team with a host of talented right-backs in the England team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier represent challenging opposition to breakthrough into the top team but Djed Spence will revel in this opportunity.

It’s the same reason why Rangers skipper James Tavernier – a man on frightening form at Ibrox – has always struggled to be recognised as England level.
