Nathan Patterson once said he had unfinished business at Rangers following a transfer to Premier League Everton.

Rangers have struggled to produce enough top talent from their academy in recent decades but Nathan Patterson is a shining example of what can be achieved at Ibrox.

Breaking Rangers’ transfer record when he signed a £12m rising to £16m deal to move to Everton in the January of 2022, it was a deal that was supposed to kickstart Rangers’ player model.

But over the last few years Rangers have been unable to maintain the success of Patterson and it’s all change at Ibrox as a result.

Nathan Patterson too has been unable to find his feet between injuries and the chaos of life at Goodison Park and now there are murmurs of an Ibrox transfer reprieve.

Nathan Patterson staying put at Everton?

According to the Liverpool Echo, Nathan Patterson is one of several Everton stars who could be moved on from Goodison Park this January.

Remarkably, the report claims that the 23-year-old was not allowed to leave last January despite interest from Bayern Munich.

The situation has naturally piqued the interest of Rangers fans, with Nathan Patterson previously saying he has ‘unfinished business’ at Ibrox.

“Of course I’d love to go back to Rangers later on in my career and finish what I started,” said Patterson in December 2022.

“It would be great to finish at Ibrox. It’s where I started off my career so it would be nice to play in front of those fans again.

”There’s a bit of unfinished business for me. I was involved in 55 but I’d like to go back and get more titles.“

But Everton manager Sean Dyche would then pour some cold water on the suggestion Nathan Patterson could leave the club on loan this January.

It comes with Rangers and clubs in the English Championship being mentioned as interested parties.

Ahead of the Toffees’ 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, where Patterson would come off the bench, Dyche claimed that Everton are looking to keep hold of all of their players.

“At the end of the day, our situation here is that we certainly will not be letting anyone go unless we need to,” said Dyche, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Unless, of course, we can swap and change. We want to keep the squad, we have had injuries and been very stretched. We are certainly not looking to have players going out.”

The comments come with first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman being out with injury and Ashley Young propping up the berth at Everton.

Rangers right-back wanted down south

Rangers could be about to see some change in the right-back position amid these latest links to Everton star Nathan Patterson.

Rangers are currently employing Turkish left-back Ridvan Yilmaz in the position as injury envelops the Ibrox side’s defence in recent weeks.

Dutch U21 star Neraysho Kasanwirjo is out of action on a long term basis after undergoing surgery earlier in the season.

Rangers captain James Tavernier is also out with a muscle injury, although it is not expected to keep the Ibrox skipper out for a long time.

Now, Rangers academy graduate Adam Devine could be on the move this January with Alan Nixon reporting that West Bromwich Albion are interested.

The Sun journalist claims that the English Championship side could strike a ‘bargain fee’ to sign Devine with the right-back out of Philippe Clement’s plans and out of contract in the summer.
