Back in March, Teeside Gazette reported that Rangers were considering a move for Stewart Downing.
Then, last week, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie claimed continued Gers interest, and those fresh links didn’t go down well with Bears.
The 35-cap England international has been with Middlesbrough since 2015 but is out of contract this summer.
As rumours continued, Ibrox insider Four Lads Had a Dream, rubbished the supposed interest.

However, despite that claim, the reports keep coming.
On Monday, the Daily Star reported that the soon to be 35-year-old is a target for both Steven Gerrard and Blackburn Rovers boss, Tony Mowbray.
It goes on to suggest, though, that Downing’s preference may be to stay at the Riverside.

It seems as though a new deal is dependent on who is chosen to succeed Tony Pulis. Boro parted company with the 61-year-old last month after they failed to secure promotion to the Premier League [BBC Sport].
Names such as Slavisa Jokanovic and Daniel Stendel are currently linked with the vacancy. Yet, should it be handed to former player, Jonathan Woodgate, it’s believed Downing is likely to be offered a 12-month contract extension.

Therefore, the veteran is set to wait until the new manager is appointed, before deciding on his future.
Downing was a teammate of Gerrard’s with both Liverpool and England and has over 400 Premier League career appearances
