Rangers boss Michael Beale has joked that he would like to bring Mason Mount to Ibrox this summer in an absolute dream world.

The Gers are going to be linked with a number of names between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

Mason Mount probably wasn’t one name Rangers fans expected to come out of Beale’s mouth though.

The Chelsea playmaker is out of contract in 2024 and could leave Stamford Bridge this summer before he walks away for nothing.

The Athletic claim that Chelsea are seeking a fee of around £70million for Mount – an amount which is quite obviously well beyond Rangers.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Mount of late and Arsenal have opened talks over a deal according to Goal.

Basically, there is next to no chance of Mount becoming a Rangers player any time soon.

Gers boss Beale has spoken about Mount though, joking with the Daily Record that he would love to bring the England international to ibrox.

Beale worked with Mount in the Chelsea ranks and remains a big fan of him many years on.

Beale raised Mount’s name as an example of how Rangers can’t sign everybody they really want and may have to take a ‘broken child’ or two this summer, believing all signings will carry an element of risk.

“It’s about a group of people coming together. Do we always get our first choices? No, because I’d like to get Mason Mount from Chelsea,” said Beale. “I’ve worked with him and I like him. But we always have to take an element of risk. Sometimes we have to get a broken child. Sometimes we get a player before he’s flourished and we help them do that,” he added.

Beale did hint last week that he would be looking at players he has previously worked with in his coaching career.

Mount may be well out of Rangers’ range but maybe some other targets will have ties to Beale from Chelsea.

Jonathan Panzo is one such player and has been linked with a move from Nottingham Forest to Rangers.

That’s much more realistic than Mount, who will have to stay as something of a dream signing for Beale rather than any kind of reality.
