Rangers will not be signing Morgan Whittaker this summer after the Swansea City winger completed a return to Plymouth Argyle.

The summer transfer window has been a busy one for Rangers with Michael Beale adding a raft of new faces.

Rangers have been linked with a host of players too, some of whom could still join, such as Jose Cifuentes and Danilo.

Others are unlikely, such as Haji Wright and Luis Palma, whilst one can be ruled out in Morgan Whittaker.

This is a rumour that has been going on for months now, ever since Wales Online claimed in January that Rangers had failed with an opening bid for Whittaker.

The Daily Record even claimed early in June that Rangers were in talks to try and sign Whittaker this summer.

Wales Online suggested just a couple of weeks that Rangers were backing away having brought in a number of other attacking signings.

Michael Beale’s chase of Whittaker appeared to be over anyway, but now it’s officially done and dusted.

Morgan Whittaker seals Plymouth Argyle move

Whittaker has now completed a return to Plymouth Argyle, where he spent the first half of last season on loan.

The 22-year-old hit nine goals and seven assists in 25 games for Plymouth last season before Swansea recalled him.

Many expected this to pave the way for a Rangers move, but that didn’t happen – and he now finds himself heading back to Home Park.

This is a major deal for Plymouth and they have secured Whittaker to a four-year contract in a club-record transfer worth around £1million plus add-ons.

The move has been met with real excitement from Argyle boss Steven Schumacher, who believes Whittaker is a ‘real coup’ for Plymouth.

Schumacher told the club’s official website that Whittaker gets fans off their seats and is simply one of the top young talents in the EFL.

“Morgan really needs no introduction to the Green Army after his contributions in our title-winning campaign last season. He scored and created crucial goals in the time he was with us, and we were all naturally disappointed when he was recalled in January,” said Schumacher.

“At just 22 he has so much room for growth and development, and we are thrilled he has decided that Home Park is the place he wants to do that. He gets fans off their seats and is one of the most exciting prospects in the EFL. He has been one of our main targets all summer, and it is a real coup to bring him back to the club. I know the fans will agree when I say I can’t wait to see him run out in an Argyle shirt once again,” he added.

Maybe Beale and Rangers will keep tabs on Whittaker moving forward, but it feels like the ship has sailed on a move to Ibrox.
