Premier League giants Man United are having quite the transfer window and Rangers could yet feel the benefit amid high-profile links to PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

The Red Devils have huffed and puffed all window long to get names in through the door and now a string of players are being linked in the aftermath of a Premier League opening day 2-1 Old Trafford defeat to Brighton.

Amongst them is 23-year-old PSV winger Cody Gakpo, who has progressed impressively at PSV since breaking into the side as a teenager four years ago.

Last season the winger registered an impressive return of 21 goals and 15 assists in 46 games for the Eredivisie runners up and the likes of the Telegraph have Man United down as an interested party.

They’re claiming that PSV attacker Cody Gakpo would cost Man United a cool £35m and that Erik ten Hag’s side are switching their attentions to the Netherlands winger after the failed chase of Ajax’s Brazilian winger Kennedy.

The links come after United’s failed pursuit of controversial Bologna attacker Marco Arnautovic and amid links to the likes of RB Leipzig-bound Benjamin Sesko, ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, Lazio’s Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Gakpo’s fellow Dutchman Frenkie de Jong.

Unlike many of these names, Telegraph journalist Jason Burt believes that PSV winger and seven-time capped Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo is a “viable signing” in what could be a boost to Rangers.

This comes after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side secured a place in the Champions League Playoff, where they will come up against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team.

The Gers pipped Belgian Pro League outfit Union Saint Gilloise to earn their spot in the two-legged Champions League clash whilst PSV dumped Monaco.

But whilst Rangers fans will certainly keep a close eye on these links to Cody Gakpo, the winger an important part of van Nistelrooy’s team having played every minute against Monaco, nothing is said and done as things stand.

In fact, according to Cody Gakpo himself, the Dutchman may well stay at PSV if they secure Champions League football, something Europa League Man United cannot offer.

Speaking before the second leg with AS Monaco, Gakpo said:

“We must first focus on [the second leg against Monaco] and try to make it to the Champions League.

“Then it is more likely that I will stay. I don’t think I have said anywhere that I am leaving, so there is definitely a chance that I will stay.

“I’m open for a cup of coffee with the management – or coffee for them and water for me. We’ll see how it goes.”

Perhaps that means that Cody Gakpo will be waiting until the outcome of the Rangers play-off before deciding his PSV future.

Rangers done the business on yet another iconic night at Ibrox as the players and fans rallied, helping to secure a cash boost of £4m in the process.
