Ligue 2 striker Jean-Phillipe Krasso has sealed a switch to Red Star Belgrade after we’d previously profiled the striker for a switch to Rangers.
Jean-Phillipe Krasso can now look forward to Champions League football next season after signing a deal with the runaway Serbian SuperLiga champions Red Star.
The Red Star Belgrade transfer comes after Jean-Phillipe Krasso netted an impressive 17 times for St Etienne in the French second tier last season, potentially piquing the interest of clubs around Europe.
There had been some chatter in Ibrox circles regarding a move for 25-year-old Ivorian striker, who is out of contract with St Etienne come the end of the month.
Whilst there was no official suggestion Rangers were ever interested in the striker, who has four caps and one goal for the Ivory Coast national team, we analysed him heavily as a result but a move never appeared likely.
Jean-Phillipe Krasso eyes up Red Star move
Available on a free contract, a move for the now Red Star Belgrade striker appeared to make sense from a financial point of view if the wage demands of Jean-Phillip Krasso were suitable for Rangers.
But for whatever reason, be it a focus on other targets or because of the financial structure, Rangers appear to be focusing their energies elsewhere in the hunt to replace Alfredo Morelos and add more firepower to the side.
The Gers have of course been extensively linked to Jean-Phillipe Krasso’s Ligue 2 rival Josh Maja, who is also out of contract but unlike the Red Star Belgrade bound forward will not be seeing his situation resolved any time soon.
The striker is at the centre of a contract option dilemma with Bordeaux who are currently fighting in the French courts after a ruling consigned them to another year in Ligue 2.
But as Rangers’ striker hunt continues to rumble on, one potential option is now off the table in Krasso who Ibrox fans may well see strutting his stuff in the Champions League next season.
