Liam Ridgewell has admitted he would be open to a move to Rangers, whilst a guest on Jim White’s talkSPORT show.

When host Jim White put it to him that Steven Gerrard could be open to a swoop, he didn’t close any doors.
“I’d entertain anything that comes my way,” responded Ridgewell, as quoted by the talkSPORT website.

“I’m open to listening to offers and speaking (to interested parties) and trying to find out where the club is going and what their ambitions are, and whether they line up with myself.
“That’s the main thing for me, being 34; I want to go into management, I want to go into coaching, so I want to try and make sure I’m stepping to a place where I can help myself along with that.”

Ridgewell to Rangers a no go

Jim White claimed multiple sources had informed him there was interest on the part of Stevie G in taking Ridgewell to Rangers.
However, we can’t see it happening. Particularly, after the defender’s comments.
Firstly, the Gers have already signed two centre-backs in George Edmundson and Filip Helander in this window. Now there are four centre-halves in the squad, which looks plenty.

Secondly, while Ridgewell is very experienced at a high level, he’s coming to the end of his career. If Rangers were desperately in need of an old head, then fine. But, with the likes of Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe already at Ibrox, there’s no call for it.
Finally, the Englishman has made it clear he wants a coaching role at his next club. That’s unlikely to be something Gerrard would want to offer right now. Competitive action has started back, and Rangers already have a settled coaching staff. The introduction of a rookie newcomer at this stage would bring unnecessary disruption.
