Koppen tastes yet more transfer defeat with ex-Gers boss ‘very close’ to stealing target

Nils Koppen has gotten used to many of Rangers’ transfer pursuits being out in the open.

Only the Belgian recruitment guru has struggled to get enough of them over the line.

As Rangers look to unearth priceless gems from across the globe, panning for gold in untapped markets has led to a lack of control over information.

Already this window Rangers have lost out of on the likes of Jose Cordoba, who chose Norwich over Ibrox, and Nathaniel Adjei, who moved to Lorient.

Then there’s Damian Garcia of Uruguayan club Peñarol and, if fresh reports are to be believed, a Bayern Munich youngster who sees his future elsewhere.

Rangers to miss out on Kabadayi?

Yusuf Kabadayi is a name Rangers fans are increasingly familiar with.

Having spent last season out on loan at FC Schalke, Rangers are one of a number of clubs who’ve been named as suitors ahead of next season.

With showdown talks at Bayern still to determine the player’s future, Rangers face competition from Italy, Germany and now increasingly Turkey.

But whilst the likes of Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce were mentioned earlier in the week, one former Rangers manager has now reportedly stolen a march.

According to the likes of Turkish outlet Sabah, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Besiktas are ‘very close’ to striking a deal for Yusuf Kabadayi.

The German winger has his roots in Turkey and according to the report, talks with Bayern Munich over a switch are ‘progressing positively’.

Van Bronckhorst to win public pursuit

We don’t need to tell you that if the reports are true – granted we’ll take them with a pinch of salt for the time being – it will be another major embarrassment for Rangers.

It would for all intents and purposes appear to be the fourth public pursuit of a player this transfer window which has not gone in the club’s favour.

Throw in the fact that it’s Giovanni van Bronckhorst – now in his first job since leaving Ibrox – and it adds an extra dimension to the entire situation.

Whilst we’ve seen plenty of speculation in Turkey fail to amount to anything in the past, Rangers fans are certainly getting a little antsy with a return to pre-season training on the horizon.

It might also not be the only time Dutch coach Gio finds himself at the centre of a Rangers transfer story this summer.
