The future of Rangers pair Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent may be up in the air as things stand, but even the most ardent Birmingham City fan will be surprised at some extraordinary links.
Whilst it doesn’t appear that there is anything official in it, Birmingham Live have genuinely suggested that the out-of-contract Ibrox duo might be of interest to the mid-table English Championship side.

Yes, in the report the outlet suggests that Birmingham might consider a move for Kent or Morelos with their current deals at Rangers set to expire at the end of the season.
The “Rangers duo” are the crux of the suggestive article, which also mentions the likes of Ryan Porteous (Hibs), Jack Fitzwater (Livingston) and Josh O’Connor (Hibs) as potential January targets.
There’s something awfully patronising about the suggestion Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos would switch Rangers for Birmingham City as things stand but alas here we are.
To their credit, the story does claim that the suggestions are “wildly optimistic” and “a bit of a reach” but we reckon both of those claims don’t do the links justice. There is no chance of it happening.
Futures of Birmingham-linked Rangers pair Kent and Morelos still up in the air
We don’t need to tell you that either Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent won’t be moving to Birmingham City but we also don’t need to explain that there remains a distinct possibility they could leave Rangers.
Both are out of contract come the end of the season and Rangers chairman Douglas Park suggested at the club’s recent AGM their current demands are “unattainable”.
That said, Michael Beale remains optimistic about the future of the pair even if he’s told them to focus on the football and prove their worth the money they want Rangers to pay.
“With every player, he’s got to be value for money, hasn’t he?” Said Beale [Rangers].
“I think the most important thing at the minute is the two boys get on doing what they do best — and that’s playing football.
“I believe I’m the ideal person to manage both players because of the previous relationship and having seen them at their best for Rangers.
“They can get that back very quickly, so let’s take another review in the coming days.
“But I’m really optimistic they can go and prove they should be here.
“In terms of finances, they have obviously got very good agents. We’re very strong on our side and we’ll probably meet somewhere in the middle.”
Whilst Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos likely won’t move to Birmingham City, one ex-Premier League international has opened the door to a Rangers switch.
