Kevin Nisbet to Rangers floated as pundit insists Ibrox move would be ‘no brainer’

Kevin Nisbet is back in the Scottish transfer window spotlight after a rather disappointing stint at English Championship side Millwall.

The former Scotland striker remains at The Den for now but it is believed the man who made the move from Hibs to London last summer for around £2m is seeking another switch.

Despite making 27 appearances in the league last season, former Rangers target Nisbet scored just five goals although he did miss a massive chunk of the campaign due to a serious hamstring injury.

Aberdeen are said to be interested in bringing Nisbet back up to Scotland after it was reported by the Edinburgh Evening News that Hibs wouldn’t be targeting a reunion this month.

It appears the Dons are the only side interested in recruiting Nisbet, who netted an impressive 31 goals in the Scottish Premiership between 2020 and 2023.

But former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has questioned why Rangers are not sniffing around the 27-year-old again, stressing he’d love to see the forward play for the Light Blues.

Derek Ferguson would love Nisbet at Rangers

Speaking on the latest Open Goal podcast, Ferguson asked the question after co-hosts Si Ferry and Paul Slane intimated that Aberdeen and Hibs had been linked with Nisbet.

He said: “Why have we not got Rangers in there, can we not have Rangers in there? I would take him in a minute. At this precise time? Absolutely.

“No brainer, he’s a good player. He’s had a couple of wee injuries but good player when he’s on it.”

Rangers shouldn’t take Nisbet risk

With just a week to go until the window shuts, it’s extremely unlikely Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have Kevin Nisbet anywhere near what remains of their transfer wishlist.

Nisbet is an effective striker at Scottish top-flight level as proven during his time at Hibs but as Ferguson alludes to, he is prone to an injury or two.

And given the injury woes Rangers have had to and continue to endure, chasing after Nisbet wouldn’t exactly go down well with the fans.

It is crucial get their recruitment absolutely spot on between now and next Friday – signing Nisbet wouldn’t be conducive of that strategy despite the quality he has.
