Kenny Miller says he expects both Rangers and Celtic to be keeping tabs on Liverpool full-back Owen Beck.
The 21-year-old joined Dundee on a season-long loan in July and has already proven to be excellent find by manager Tony Docherty.
Beck has made 19 appearances so far and is doing everything possible to find a way into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool plans in the future. That could be sooner rather than later given the current left-back injury crisis at Anfield, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Beck recalled.
His contract at Liverpool does run down at the end of the season, however, so Rangers – if they were to be interested – would be able to make a pre-contract move in January.
Left-back is an area Rangers need to upgrade in and Beck could fit the bill for the long-term. Miller spoke along those lines on BBC Sportsound on Boxing Day, saying that he was looking forward to watching Beck perform for Dundee against Celtic.
The former Rangers striker then said Gers should be looking into Beck as a potential transfer target due to his ‘outstanding’ 2023/24 campaign so far.
Kenny Miller talks up Owen Beck

Kenny Miller said: “I think (Tony Docherty) has been quite brave when you look at some of his team selections. Look in their midfield they’ve got Luke McCowan, Lyall Cameron, they’re attacking players. I really, really like McCowan. For me he’s probably been their best performer over the course of the season.
“At the start of the season Bakayoko was getting goals, he got one at Ibrox the other week, so there is goals in their team.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Owen Beck today. The games that I’ve seen him this year he’s been absolutely outstanding. This goes again to show the loans and opportunities that can be presented, from the big clubs in England up to Scotland to play.
“I would expect, for me, maybe the big two up here to be having a look at this player. Both of them could do with a player in that area of the pitch and he’s been outstanding.
“Tony’s right, their recruitment’s been good, they’ve got a decent enough balance in how they attack, they work hard and have had a brilliant start to the season just outside the top six. They’ve got a couple of games in hand to catapult them into the top six.”
There’s no doubting that Beck is a superb young talent and Miller’s viewpoint isn’t far-fetched. As mentioned, he may even see his career take another step up within the next month if he is to be recalled by Liverpool.
Both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are out injured so a hasty Beck return from Dundee could be sanctioned. He could yet earn a contract extension on Merseyside, but Rangers would be free to enter into negotiations with Beck and his representatives in January given he has just six months left on his Liverpool deal.
