Kai Kennedy finds form but too late for Rangers in lesson for Lowry

Kai Kennedy, on loan from Rangers, fired Falkirk into the Scottish Cup semi-finals and his recent form has also given them a shot at promotion back to the Championship.

The Auchenhowie academy product has finally found the numbers that his performances deserve after struggling at various lower league clubs, the 21-year old is now hitting the heights that we all knew he was capable of.

With 10 goals and 10 assists, Kennedy has had his best season in senior football by some distance.

Eight goal contributions in his last 10 games makes for even better reading and the Scotland Under-21 international is peaking at just the right time.

Is it too little, too late for Kai Kennedy and his Rangers future?

Unfortunately for Kai Kennedy, it has come too late for him to be offered a new deal at Rangers.

There has certainly been nothing to suggest that the former £1m West Ham United target is going to get another chance to impress.

As a fresh-faced 17-year old, he made his debut when Michael Beale was number two to Steven Gerrard but he hasn’t made the progress that saw him linked with some of Europe’s top sides.

Like Josh McPake, Kennedy will not be short of offers when his contract expires at the end of this season and his time at Falkirk will stand him in good stead.

If the Bairns get promoted and they offer him a deal, he could do a lot worse than sacrificing a potentially bigger salary for stability and consistency.

Kennedy is another example of how difficult it is to make the step up to the Rangers first-team.

Talent will only get youngsters so far before hard work and mentality take over as the primary factors in following the likes of Nathan Patterson and Leon King.

It is a lesson that, hopefully, Alex Lowry will pay attention to.

A player with all the ability in the world, and a real chance to make it at the top, but one who has seen a season come and go without making any impact on it.

Next season isn’t quite make or break for Lowry, however, he should be looking at his former academy teammate as inspiration and working harder to avoid the same fate.
