Reputable journalist Alan Nixon has confirmed Rangers’ interest in Huddersfield attacking midfielder Juninho Bacuna after reports appeared in the press.

The Scottish Sun led this week with a story claiming that the Ibrox side were set to pounce on the 24-year-old Dutch-born Curacao midfielder.

Nixon is known to be close to the newspaper and answered a fan asking about the potential interest by saying the deal is “being sorted”.

Whilst any details regarding a potential transfer fee are sparse, Bacuna is entering the final year of his contract and Nixon claims that any transfer deal is “not expensive”.

Claiming talks were “advanced”, Nixon would then claim that Rangers are set to sign the player full-time, on a low fee with add ons dependent on games.

It’s interesting to note that the player joined the Terriers when they were in the Premier League, playing a full season in the English top-flight before turning out in the Championship.

Now in the final year of his deal, Rangers appear eager to strike a deal for the player who is not to be confused with older brother and Cardiff City star Leandro.

Coming through the ranks at Groningen, the fact Huddersfield pounced back in their Premier League days – with Bacuna only 21 – shows the player is considered a talent.

So far, the player has netted twelve goals and laid on nine assists in 107 Huddersfield games and this is quite an exciting prospective signing for the Gers.

Nixon himself also pointed to historic Gers links to Bacuna which he broke back in October 2020.

The journalist claimed back then that Rangers had made a loan-to-buy inquiry for the attacking midfielder which was rejected by the Kirklees Stadium club.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also since admitted that the club are “actively looking to strengthen in midfield”.

Nixon has previous for nailing transfers across the UK and even at Ibrox, where the writer tipped Rangers to move for Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram in September 2020.

So far in the transfer window Rangers have signed Nnamdi Ofoborh, Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram with Jack Simpson’s initial loan deal becoming permanent.

Whilst the Juninho Bacuna move appears to have some legs for now, one club are reportedly preparing for life without another high-profile star being linked to Rangers.
