Rangers will not be signing Rafael Santos Borre this summer as the Colombian striker signs a deal with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.
That’s according to a leading Sky Sports journalist who believes the River Plate star has put an end to weeks of conjecture regarding his future by signing a four-year deal.
Sky Sports Germany reporter Max Bielefeld took to Twitter to make the announcement with an announcement regarding the player’s final destination “expected in a few days”.
Rangers were extensively linked to Borre after Football Insider claimed the Gers were considering a move for the 25-year-old with his contract running down at River Plate.
River boss Marcelo Gallardo made no bones about his desire to keep the striker in Argentina, but it was widely reported the club did fear the worst regarding the ex-Atletico player’s future.
The situation at River was also complicated by the reported inclusion of a transfer clause which would see the club owe Atletico Madrid £3m if he signed a new deal at the Millionaires [TyC Sports].
There was some conjecture regarding the potential legal minefield had River Plate let his contract expire before signing him on a completely new deal beyond June 30th.

El Deportivo had claimed that the Gers were putting forward a proposal which was financially superior of that of River Plate.
Santos Borre – who is currently at the Copa America with Los Cafeteros – was a name that excited Gers fans but unfortunately he looks set to be moving elsewhere.
Rafael isn’t the only Colombian striker who’s been linked to Frankfurt in recent years with Rangers’ resident South American forward also mentioned alongside the Bundesliga side.
