A journalist has appeared to confirm the existence of a release clause in the contract of Ryan Kent as his current Rangers deal prepares to enter its final year.
The Gers will need to ship Ryan Kent on in the summer or risk losing the winger for nothing when his contract expires in the summer of 2023 if they cannot agree terms on a new deal.
Signed from Liverpool in 2019 on a £7m deal after an initially successful loan stint in Steven Gerrard’s first season, the notion Rangers could lose Kent for nothing is unthinkable.
Now, Pete O’Rourke has been reiterating to Give Me Sport that Rangers winger Ryan Kent has a reported £20m release clause in his contract heading into the summer.

Rangers have previously rejected at least one bid of £10m from Leeds United for the winger and it remains unclear if suitors such as the Elland Road club will re-enter the market for the player in the coming months.
Football Insider recently claimed that the Premier League side are monitoring Kent’s situation heading into the summer.
“The Ryan Kent one’s interesting; he’s been a long-term target for Leeds,” said journalist O’Rourke.
“Ever since they won promotion back to the Premier League, there was links with Ryan Kent.
“He’s had another good season for Rangers, impressed especially in their European run as well. If Leeds did follow up their interest, there is a release clause in his contract.”
Given the fact Rangers have allowed Ryan Kent’s contract to run down to the final year means that the club are remarkably unlikely to get get that £20m for the player.
Rangers are expecting a busy summer transfer window with a sizeable turnover of players and Ryan Kent isn’t the only top star set to enter the final year of his contract.
Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Filip Helander are also entering the final year of their deals and are both high-earners and valuable first teamers.
But the injury situation surrounding one of them raises major doubts regarding the reliability of a £3m Rangers investment.
