On Monday afternoon, Fleetwood Town announced the signing of Jordan Rossiter from Rangers.
The 22-year-old has sealed a season-long loan deal with the EFL League One club. With Rossiter out of contract at Rangers in the summer, it’s likely this means he’s played his final game for the Light Blues.

The Trawlermen’s website claims they fought off ‘a host’ of other clubs to the signing. It seems that after a successful stint with Bury at the back end of last season, Rossiter was in-demand.
However, advice from Ibrox outcast Jason Holt helped make his mind up. Holt also spent the majority of last season at Fleetwood, making 33 league appearances before injury curtailed his stint.
“I am made up to have signed for Fleetwood Town,” Rossiter told his new club’s website. “I’m just looking forward to getting started as it has been a long few days at the club.”
“I know the manager Joey Barton from our time at Rangers, and I also know Clint [Hill], and when they got in touch about me coming down to Fleetwood, it was the place I wanted to come and play my football.
“Jason Holt spoke highly of the club and with us both being at Rangers, he told me all these good things and for me that was enough. I just can’t wait to get started!”

Verdict
After an injury-plagued few seasons at Ibrox, this represents a good move for Rossiter. He proved his worth as a regular starter with Bury in League Two and now he steps up a level.
For Rangers, the deal makes sense too. While receiving a transfer fee for a permanent departure may have been the ideal scenario, at least this way a reported £10k-a-week is knocked off the wage bill [Daily Mail].
With so many options in midfield, Stevie G needed to trim the squad and so, this is very much a win for both sides.
