Joey Veerman: Possible Rangers transfer boost as reported rivals Feyenoord sign alternative star

In a possible transfer boost for Rangers, reported key rivals in the race for Joey Veerman, Feyenoord, have signed a similar player from Molde FK.

The Gers have been linked with Heerenveen star Veerman for some time, with the Glasgow Times reporting that they could be prepared to splash up to £7m on the 22-year-old.

They aren’t the only club to have been credited with interest, though.

Hellas Verona and Feyenoord have both been linked and the player himself has expressed interest in joining both clubs.

However, Verona reportedly pulled out of the race after being priced out of a swoop and it appears that Veerman’s asking price has also forced Feyenoord to go elsewhere.

After the Dutch giants were unsuccessful with a cash plus player offer, their technical director Frank Arnesen suggested that a move could prove impossible as they were ‘financially limited’ [Voetbal International], and now, they’ve signed a player in a similar mould.

On Sunday, Norwegian club Molde confirmed that Fredrik Aursnes was moving to De Kuip.

The 25-year-old Norway international is a midfielder who, just like Veerman, can contribute at the top end of the pitch, scoring four goals and notching nine assists over the past one and a half Eliteserien seasons.

This development could leave Veerman relatively open for Rangers if they are indeed willing to pay serious cash.

Whether they will or not could well be dependent on qualifying for the Champions League, though, and the significant cash boost that making it to the competition proper provides.

The Gers are currently somewhat light in midfield with both Ryan Jack and Nnamdi Ofoborh unavailable and Glen Kamara serving a UEFA ban.

Heerenveen’s Eredivisie season gets underway on Friday, though, and with Veerman contracted until 2024, they are under no pressure to sell in this window.

An exciting young Rangers loanee has also been hit by a cruel injury blow early in the season.
