Joe Rothwell has been linked with an exit despite joining Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old moved to Ibrox from Bournemouth, and the expectation was that he would be a first-team regular.

However, given the upheaval behind the scenes and the change of manager, the English midfielder has only been restricted to eight league appearances, with only five of them being starts.

Rangers in talks with multiple clubs for Joe Rothwell sale

According to Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack, the Gers are in negotiations with a host of clubs over Rothwell’s exit.

It is understood that at least three sides are in discussions over a potential transfer ahead of the deadline on 2 February.

The midfielder’s stock remains high in England, given his success in the Championship with Leeds United.

He played a key role in getting Daniel Farke’s side promoted to the Premier League, and they appear to be in a position to avoid relegation this season.

The 31-year-old also has experience in the English top flight as he spent three years at Bournemouth, and despite his age, appears to be an attractive prospect for clubs south of the border.

It has been claimed that Rangers prefer a permanent transfer rather than a loan move in the coming days.

How much is Rothwell expected to fetch Rangers?

Rangers paid around £400k to secure Rothwell’s services in the summer and will be looking to make a profit from his sale.

Usually, players are past their prime at 31, but the interest from multiple clubs gives the Gers leverage to drive up his price.

They would ideally be looking at seven figures, and given the revenues in the Championship, clubs can afford to pay that much.

If he performed well for a side that won the second division last season, there is no reason why he cannot have an immediate impact this time around as well.

Danny Rohl is understood to be open to his exit as there are other midfielders ahead of the former Bournemouth man in the pecking order.

With the SPFL title still up for grabs, Rothwell’s sale may even open the door for another new signing before the window closes.
