Rangers have been offered a chance to sign former Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

Lingard has had an eventful career path since leaving Old Trafford, with his most recent club being FC Seoul in South Korea.

The former England international is now a free agent, as his contract there was mutually terminated.

Rangers and Celtic both pass on the opportunity to sign Jesse Lingard

According to TEAMtalk, Rangers and Celtic both had the chance to secure the services of Lingard.

As he is a free agent, he can be signed outside the transfer window as well, but the Old Firm duo passed up on the opportunity.

Celtic went for another former England international in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain instead, and that decision seems to have paid off as he scored on his debut.

West Ham were also in talks with the 33-year-old for a probable second spell at the London Stadium, but the Premier League outfit did not go ahead and sign him.

Lingard also made himself available to Burnley as well as other clubs in England’s second tier.

However, none of them were willing to take a punt on him, and he will now explore options outside Europe.

Which club is Lingard now likely to join?

Globo are reporting that Lingard is in talks to join Brazilian club Remo.

It’s understood that he has held positive talks with Remo, and negotiations have progressed over the last few weeks.

Lingard will join them until the end of the season and then once again revisit his options ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Did Rangers make a mistake not taking a punt on Lingard?

A few seasons ago, the Gers took a punt on a former Premier League and Champions League player in Aaron Ramsey.

They believed that his experience of playing regularly in top competitions would benefit.

However, that did not happen, and it may have come into their thinking ahead of considering a move for Lingard.

While he has had weeks where he has looked unplayable, over the course of a full season, he has seldom performed consistently.

He is also more of a moments player rather than someone who would fit into Danny Rohl’s system.

His signing would be a headline grabber, surely, but Rangers made the right call by not going ahead with it.
