Jermain Defoe has discussed his Rangers future, as quoted by the Scotsman.
The 57-cap England international forward signed for the club on loan in January.
The Gers knew they would have Defoe’s service until at least the end of the season, but despite the deal being for 18-months, clauses ensure parent club Bournemouth have two chances to recall him.

He arrived in Glasgow to much fanfare but has ultimately had to be patient in order to get game time.
Nonetheless, he’s now made it clear where he sees his immediate future.
“I want to stay here, for sure”, said Defoe, as quoted by the Scotsman.
“I want a full season to try to achieve something special here. Bournemouth can call me back in the summer and again in January, but for me I am focused on being here and scoring goals for Rangers.
“I want to help the team, it’s as simple as that. So far it’s been great, there have been ups and downs, but that’s football. I believe next season we can really kick on and achieve something.”

Verdict
Defoe has scored six goals and registered one assist in 11 SPL matches since his arrival.
That’s a pretty strong return, especially as he arrived having played virtually no football this season.
It’s encouraging to see such an experienced player, who’s spent much of his career in the Premier League, be excited by what’s going on at Rangers.
He turns 37 in October, but while he won’t start every week, it can only be a good thing to have such an accomplished marksman to call upon throughout next season.

Of course, none of that matters a job if Eddie Howe and Bournemouth seek to recall him.
However, that only looks likely in the case of a major injury crisis at The Cherries.
Defoe has had a distinguished career but his trophy cabinet is a little bare. Encouragingly, it looks as though he wants to put that right with the Gers.
