Alan Nixon refuses to rule out Rangers interest in Man Utd goalkeeper Jack Butland as the transfer journalist claims Crystal Palace retain an option for another year.

The former England international goalkeeper – who hasn’t played for the Three Lions since 2018 – is currently on loan at Old Trafford as he heads into the final months of his current contract.

Rangers were linked with Jack Butland last summer amid much speculation surrounding the number one spot at Ibrox, speculation which has continued into this season.

With Allan McGregor still undecided on retirement, and major doubts over Jon McLaughlin, Rangers fans believe the standard of goalkeeping this season hasn’t been good enough across the board.

There are huge calls for a new bonafide number one stopper to come into the club and Jack Butland certainly stands out as a solid option for Rangers.

Rangers will need to stump up for Jack Butland

Speaking to a fan on his now private Twitter account, Alan Nixon claimed that whilst there has been solid interest from Ibrox in the past, he is “not sure” if this is still the case.

Furthermore, the journalist claims that any move for Jack Butland would also involve a fee – contrary to the suggestion the keeper is out of contract – with Crystal Palace having the option of another year.

This means that Rangers might not be able to sweet talk the goalkeeper to join the Michael Beale revolution though the stopper directly with the Premier League side a big player in the keeper’s future.

Rangers fans will be trusting the club to get this situation right this summer with the goalkeeping position coming in for huge scrutiny and contributing to a disastrous season at Ibrox.

Big changes are in the offing and whilst Jack Butland seems a long way off for Rangers as things stand, the Man Utd loanee might fancy joining the likes of Todd Cantwell north of the border to kickstart his career.
