Italian media claim Rangers have taken Aaron Ramsey transfer decision

Reports in Italy are suggesting that Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey won’t be extending his stay at Rangers when his loan spell ends in the summer.

There is some pressure mounting on the Ibrox board for sanctioning the move for the 71-cap Welsh international who has missed the last three games due to an apparently minor injury.

Prior to the diabolical 2-2 draw with Motherwell, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst was insistent Ramsey hadn’t suffered a setback despite the fact the draw didn’t include Ramsey in the side.

Rangers’ form since the break has been absolutely shameful – the club picking up only 13 points from 24 and surrendering a six-point lead in the title race – and the club’s transfer business sits at the centre of the criticism.

The marquee move for Juventus star Aaron Ramsey has not yet paid off as the injury-plagued midfielder struggles for fitness and Rangers toil for points.

Manchester United kid Amad Diallo also doesn’t appear close to having the right kind of impact whilst USA loanee James Sands and Polish U21 international Mateusz Zukowski are also squad players.

The frustration is evident and now reports in Calcio Mercato are claiming that a summer move for Aaron Ramsey now looks unlikely.

This is despite conflicting reports at the time of the transfer suggesting Rangers had an option to buy on the midfielder, who is contracted to Juventus until the summer of 2023.

This option-to-buy suggestion is also mooted by the Italian newspaper, who claim it is “almost inevitable” Rangers won’t sign Ramsey this summer.

Whether the midfielder does or doesn’t have a clause in his contract is irrelevant as things stand.

Rangers only have ten league games to go – albeit with a Europa League and Scottish Cup run woven amongst it – with time running out for the player to leave an impression.

If Rangers don’t go on to secure the league title this season, and Aaron Ramsey can’t get fit enough to aid the defence, then it will likely go down as one of the worst signings in Scottish footballing history.

The shortcomings of Rangers’ domestic season after the winter break for the third time in four years also points to a £40m gamble from the Ibrox boardroom.
