Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans have reacted with delight on social media after Rangers winger Kai Kennedy sealed a short-term loan move to the SPFL Championship club [ictfc.com].

18-year-old Kennedy starred for Rangers’ Colts and U20s teams last season, earning him a call-up to the senior squad for the winter training camp in Dubai.

After impressing there, he made his debut in a Scottish Cup match against Stranraer at Ibrox in January and many tipped him for a big future at Ibrox.

However, he has since been linked with a permanent move away from the club after talks over a new contract stalled [Daily Record]. It has been suggested that Kennedy wants more assurances over playing time than Steven Gerrard is willing to give him and that it’s unlikely that the winger will stay at the club in the long-term.

For now, he’s secured a temporary exit, joining Inverness on loan until January. When he returns, he’ll have just six months left on his Gers deal.

His contract situation isn’t of great concern for Caley Thistle supporters, though, who are just delighted to see a highly-rated youngster join their ranks for a few months.

Kennedy impressed in the Highlands during a narrow Colts defeat to his new side in the Challenge Cup semi-final in February and he will now have the chance to show his quality in the second tier of Scottish football.

Here’s a selection of reactions to his loan move:

Kennedy has been called up by Scotland U19s for two friendlies against England at St Georges Park, but could return in time for Inverness’ second League Cup fixture at home to Cowdenbeath on 13th October.
