Norwich City midfielder and Scotland international Kenny McLean has kept the door open to a switch to Rangers, despite signing a new deal at Carrow Road.

Boyhood bluenose McLean, 30, has been routinely linked to Rangers throughout his career with the most recent reports cropping up ahead of the January window as his contract ticked down at Norwich.

But as things transpired Kenny McLean signed a new deal at Carrow Road and is now tied to the club until 2026 as they aim for promotion to the Premier League.

It’s been a up-and-down time at Norwich since McLean joined the Canaries from Aberdeen in 2018, quite literally, and Kenny has spent time turning out in the Premier League and Championship for the yo-yo club.

Now, the next three seasons have been committed to Norwich City but speaking to Talk Norwich City [47m 57s] the midfielder revealed that he would love to finish his career at Rangers.

Kenny McLean also claimed that whilst there have been links aplenty, there’s never been an official approach from Rangers amid the reports.

Kenny McLean admits he wants Rangers move

“I think long term, it will be back home in Glasgow [on his future],” said McLean.

“There’s always talk. But there’s never been anything in front of me saying ‘there you go’.

“Would I love it one day? Of course [return to Rangers]. If you’re brought up and that’s who you support then of course I would. My family would be over the moon.”

It’s certainly an interesting set of comments given Kenny McLean has just signed a new deal at Norwich City but for any Rangers fan there is only one place they want to end up when all is said and done.

It’s a sign that McLean loves the club and given the midfielder’s longevity at Norwich City, he certainly does have something to offer should Rangers ever finally put a deal forward.

But much of that will depend on the player’s age and given Kenny McLean is committed down south until after his 33rd birthday, we’re not convinced the chance will ever come.

Meanwhile, one Rangers star has been namedropped by a Euro manager heading into the January window.
