Rangers will not be signing striker Ike Ugbo this summer after the Canada international completed a move to Cardiff City.

The Gers simply had to focus on bringing attacking options to Ibrox this summer.

Michael Beale has now landed two attackers with Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima arriving from Atalanta and Brighton.

Rangers look set to add another striker this week with Cyriel Dessers finally on the brink of a move to Ibrox.

That means some names from the rumour mill can be forgotten about; the likes of Josh Maja and Haji Wright.

Then there is Ike Ugbo.

The Scottish Sun reported in May that Rangers were keen on bringing Ugbo to Glasgow.

Beale is familiar with Ugbo from the Chelsea youth ranks, just as he was with signing Dujon Sterling and target Jonathan Panzo

A £3.5million deal was touted after Ugbo endured a difficult season with French side Troyes last season.

The Canada international may well have been on the Rangers radar but he will not he reuniting with Beale this summer.

Rangers-linked Ike Ugbo joins Cardiff City

Ugbo has completed a return to English football by heading to Wales with Cardiff City.

The Bluebirds have confirmed Ugbo’s arrival, signing the centre forward on loan for the 2023-24 season.

That means Ugbo will now play alongside former Rangers trio Jak Alnwick, Jack Simpson and Sheyi Ojo down in the Welsh capital.

The hope is that Ugbo can get back on track and hit the goal trail with Cardiff, who have been in need of a new striker.

Maybe Beale will keep tabs on Ugbo’s progress in South Wales in the hope of bringing him to Rangers one day.

This is one to forget about for now though with Ugbo off to Cardiff and Dessers seemingly inbound.
