Philippe Clement is primed for a busy transfer window as he looks to rebuild Rangers into potential title winners.

The manager inherited a squad that is riddled with problems and has cut a frustrated figure recently dealing with an ever growing injury list.

With Jose Cordoba said to be close to becoming Philippe Clement’s first Rangers signing of the summer, another young, talented and promising prospect has been linked with a move to Ibrox.

Rangers linked with move for wonderkid Sol Sidibe

According to The Daily Mail, the Gers boss and Nils Koppen are keeping tabs on Stoke City’s Sol Sidibe.

The 17-year old midfielder made his debut for the Potters earlier this season and has attracted elite level interest.

Chelsea have been watching the French-born playmaker and AC Milan are also monitoring the youngster.

Sol has followed in his father’s footsteps by playing for Stoke with Mamady playing up front and scoring goals in the Premier League.

It would be good if Sol can fill out like his old man too given that the Mali international was a towering 6ft 4 inches tall and formed a partnership with Peter Crouch to rival the giant duo of Duncan Ferguson and Mark Hateley.

Speaking a few weeks ago, Sidibe is clearly grateful for the chance to strut his stuff at the Bet365 Stadium:

“It is only the start, hopefully there will be many more opportunities to come.

“From joining as an under-eight, I feel like I have always been on an upwards trajectory.

“The first team experience at the start of the season was great. I had an opportunity to impress, that was all I wanted, and hopefully there will be more to come.”

Sidibe could be useful signing for Rangers quota

Given Sidibe’s age, should Rangers sign him, he could still qualify as a home grown or club trained player in accordance with UEFA’s guidelines on quotas.

The loophole hasn’t been closed quite yet and it is one that Rangers should take advantage of for the right players.

The Championship is a physical place for a midfielder so, if Sidibe can handle himself there, the SPFL shouldn’t be an issue.

If he doesn’t choose the Premier League or Serie A that is.
