Hertha Berlin attacker Myziane Maolida has been linked with a “top club from Scotland” after Rangers succumbed to a friendly defeat against the Germans.
The Gers faced off against Hertha Berlin in a mid-season friendly match as the club ramps up their winter training camp preparations in La Manga.
Falling to a 1-0 defeat in Spain, the match was overshadowed by a red card shown to manager Philippe Clement but there’s some transfer news surrounding the game which will interest fans.
Myziane Maolida transfer claim
As reported by Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Hertha Berlin attacker Myziane Maolida is wanted by Hansa Rostock in this window.
But interestingly interest from a “top club from Scotland” also threatens to pique Rangers’ interest with only the Ibrox side or Old Firm rivals Celtic likely to be able to afford a switch.
Not that Rangers manager Philippe Clement would’ve been able to see Myziane Maolida in action – and not just because he was sent packing in the friendly defeat.
The 24-year-old French-born attacker did not play in Hertha Berlin’s training camp friendly victory over Rangers amid rumbling transfer speculation surrounding his future.
Rangers interested in Hertha Berlin attacker?
Although Myziane Maolida was born in Paris, the forward turns out for African side Comoros for whom he has made two caps and scored two goals.
Coming through the youth ranks at Ligue 1 club Lyon, Maolida made headlines back in 2018 when OGC Nice paid a reported €10m (£8.6m) for his services.
Having signed a five-year deal, the weight of expectation proved a little too much for the attacker who went on to sign for Hertha Berlin for around €4m (£3.4m) in 2021.
Again, it’s not happened for the attacker in a potential red flag to Ibrox fans and after a loan move to Stade de Reims in the second half of last season, Myziane Maolida has been demoted to the Hertha Berlin second string.
Scoring three goals in ten appearances in the Regionalliga Nordost this season, the winger’s time at Hertha Berlin looks to be coming to an end.
But where next for the forward with an unnamed “top club in Scotland” mentioned amongst Maolida’s suitors?
