Spurs star Harry Winks is currently on loan at Sampdoria but hasn’t stopped some Rangers fans connecting the dots after Michael Beale comments about visiting Italy.
The Gers boss admitted ahead of the clash with Aberdeen that he’d been to the continent on a scouting mission and to take in some games.
Michael Beale is clear that he wants to sit down with any prospective signings ahead of what promises to be a busy window to ensure they are the right move for the club.
Beale’s soundbites are certainly exciting and what’s more the ex-Ibrox assistant was upbeat that deals are already nearing completion.
“It wasn’t a holiday (in Italy),” explained Michael Beale, with Rangers fans immediately pulling up Sampdoria loanee Harry Winks in their research.
“I was off working for the club in Italy last weekend to meet some contacts and watch some games. I love recruitment and looking at players, there will be change.
“We are in an age with stats everywhere, but I want to sit with a player and see if they want to play for Rangers. You also want to clearly chat through their roles and what they can expect at the club. Relationships in football is massive.
“I’m really comfortable with where we are going, it is clear we want to get most of our work done early and get a strong pre-season.“
Harry Winks Rangers injury fears
Rangers fans then had some fun looking at names from across Italy as they look for players who might fit the Michael Beale mould.
Whilst the likes of AS Roma stars Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham might just be beyond our reach, the situation involving Spurs and Sampdoria midfielder Harry Winks is certainly interesting.
Now 27-years-old, there was a time when Harry Winks was one of the English game’s most promising talents and his 10 England caps is a testament to the level of the player.
Given the generation of young English footballers Harry Winks belongs to, the midfielder could also easily have worked with Michael Beale in his youth, whilst the player has been linked to Ibrox in the past.

But the last few seasons have seen the midfielder’s career stagnate and he joined Sampdoria this season where his season has been – wait for it – badly disrupted by injury.
As Rangers’ season is derailed by injury problems news that Harry Winks spent the first half of the season out with an ankle injury will raise a serious red flag for Ibrox fans.
With injuries preventing summer signings Tom Lawrence, Ridvan Yilmaz, John Souttar and Rabbi Matondo having an impact on the season the club must learn their lesson.
The absences of high-earners like Kemar Roofe and Filip Helander has also cost the club big and whilst Harry Winks is certainly an interesting proposition, Rangers can’t afford injuries draining the wage bill if they’re serious about regaining the Premiership title.
