Gordon Smith, has made a big Rangers transfer claim in the Sunday Post.
The former SFA chief and Rangers Director of Football believes it’s time for the Gers to cash in on Alfredo Morelos.
The striker scored 30 goals in all competitions this season. As a result, he claims ‘many clubs’ are showing interest in him ahead of the transfer window [Scottish Sun].

Yet, Steven Gerrard says the only offer the club have received this season was a derisory 3 million euros [Scottish Sun].
“Steven Gerrard’s side produced some terrific football, full of pace, precision, and positive intent,”
wrote Smith in the Sunday Post, when analysing Rangers’ recent Old Firm win.
“They did so too for the most part without top scorer Alfredo Morelos, who played only 11 minutes off the subs’ bench. Rangers play with more fluidity when he is not involved, and this was proof positive.
“If the club receive a big bid for the Colombian in the summer, they should take it and use part of the funds to strengthen their squad.”

Verdict

Bids are bound to come this summer and when they do, the powers that be at Rangers face a tough call.
When aiming for silverware, it doesn’t make much sense to sell one of your best players. A few months ago, it was hard to see what Rangers would do without Morelos. When he played he scored, when he didn’t, Gerrard’s side looked toothless.
However, Smith does have a point. During El Bufalo’s prolonged stint out of the side, Rangers did play better.
Jermain Defoe proved well capable of leading the line, while the likes of Scott Arfield stepped up to the plate.
Gerrard is surely now more inclined to sell, than at any other point since he arrived.
Whether a big enough offer comes in or not, only time will tell.
