Steven Gerrard proved a big name factor for Rangers and he’s doing so again for Aston Villa as they announce the signing of Boubacar Kamara.
The 22-year-old French defensive midfielder turned centre-back was one of European football’s hottest properties heading into the summer as his deal ticked down with Marseille.
But whilst the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid were all touted as potential suitors it’s Villa Park and the Premier League Boubacar Kamara will turn out in next season.
Signing a five-year deal with Steven Gerrard, Gary Mac, Mick Beale and co, this is a big move and it follows on from the ex-Rangers boss’ signing of Phillipe Coutinho.
Villa reportedly paid £17m to sign the Barcelona playmaker [Daily Mail] after initially convincing the ex-Liverpool star to join on loan in January.
Boubacar Kamara is also the namesake of Rangers star Glen, but the two are unrelated.
Gerrard factor helps Aston Villa secure Boubacar Kamara
These are players that you get the feeling just wouldn’t have been possible to sign under the previous management at Villa Park.
It speaks volumes for the pull of Steven Gerrard and this is something Rangers are more than familiar with after his three-and-a-bit years at Ibrox.
Rangers were in a mess when the Liverpool legend stepped foot through the doors at Ibrox and his status in the game helped to transform the squad before he left for Villa Park in November last year.
One of the best players of his generation, Gerrard is clearly a massive sway and now backed by Premier League millions is making waves in the transfer market.
As the Premier League season wound to a close, the ex-Rangers boss was clear that this is a big summer of recruitment in Birmingham.
It won’t stop at Phillipe Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara but should Rangers fans be nervous amid links to one of the Ibrox club’s top assets?
