Rangers have a shortage of homegrown players due partly to losing and not replacing fringe players like Greg Stewart in recent seasons.
Currently starring in India, the former Gers forward was little more than a bit part player under Steven Gerrard and left with a total of 33 appearances, most of which were off the bench.
Speaking to the Scots Abroad podcast hosted by John Walker, the 33-year old revealed how his move to Rangers came about and how Greg Stewart managed to sign for the club he loved.

How Rangers dream came true for Greg Stewart
Stewart always seemed to have plenty of technical ability, however, he never really had the pace to become a top player and first-team regular.
When asked by Walker how his dream move came about, Greg Stewart said:
“We played Rangers at Pittodrie, I ran riot that day.
“I played against Borna, basically, Borna got me a move to Rangers.
“I always said that to him when I signed, I said ‘cheers mate, you got me a move here’.
“Derek’s pulled me in and said ‘Rangers have been on the phone, they want to sign you on a pre-contract’.
“If this comes out, Aberdeen’s going to be hounding you, all the fans are going to hate you.
“I was in total shock, I didn’t know what to say, ‘is this a wind up, is this a joke?’”
It was a surprise signing given that Rangers seemed well set for forwards, however, Greg Stewart had impressed at Kilmarnock earlier in the season and earned a move to his boyhood club.
On a free transfer, it was worth a punt.
It might not have worked out but it is the sort of signing that Rangers should make more often.

Every successful Rangers team has had a core of good Scottish players and Greg Stewart was one that looked like he might be handy in domestic fixtures.
He didn’t set the world alight but he at least gave everything when he was given the opportunity and got the chance to do what many of us would pay good money for.
And there he will always have his one man demolition of Aberdeen at Ibrox to look back on.
