Steven Gerrard has elaborated on the club’s transfer plans, as quoted by the Evening Times.
There’s a general recognition that with the gap in the SPL now 13 points, Rangers have improvements to make.
Yet, the last two Old Firm fixtures have shown that on any given day, the sides are evenly matched.

The manager feels that he’s fixed the ‘broken’ changing room he inherited. That was achieved by flooding the squad with new faces, but this summer is unlikely to be as dramatic.
“Now it is important to try and bring in a higher level of player with more quality to add to the eleven, which will naturally strengthen the squad and give us more firepower and numbers in the top area of the pitch”, said Gerrard as quoted by the Evening Times. “That is where we have fallen a bit short at times.”

However, he doesn’t expect that to be easy.

Challenges Ahead

“There are a couple of challenges, more than a couple of challenges, that come with that and one is obviously financial”, Gerrard continued.
“We have to wait to see what is available. There might be movement within our squad and we have to wait and see what challenges come from that. Are people going to come and offer good money for some of our players and decisions are taken out of our hands? The other challenge is getting the players in.

“Are the right players available? Can we afford them? Do they look in and see this is an exciting challenge that they want to be part of?
“There are different challenges that I am going to have to face in the coming months and I am really excited by those challenges. I look forward to sitting down with Dave (King) and the board in the weeks before the end of the season to see where we are, what the situation is and we will go from there.”

Analysis

Gerrard is clearly under no illusions here. He knows improvements need to be made but also recognises the club’s spending power is limited.
Most supporters will agree that the final third is the area most in need of strengthening. A no.10 is a must, while an extra goalscorer would do no harm.
However, there will also need to be arrivals in defence. Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley are likely to depart and both must be replaced.
