The way that footballer’s have new transfers announced has changed since the days of the back pages of the papers being the only source but former Rangers striker Robbie Ure has had his move to Anderlecht revealed in the strangest manner.

The 19-year old Scotland youth cap had been on trial at AZ Alkmaar and linked with staying in the SPFL with Kilmarnock but nothing materialised.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, Si Ferry, who also coaches at East Kilbride, has revealed that he made an audacious effort to sign the recently departed Rangers striker, however, Robbie Ure already had other plans.

Rangers striker Robbie Ure makes career call

Ure’s agent David Moss is the source of the revelation as to where the towering striker has gone and Anderlecht have confirmed the deal this afternoon.

Seen on a promotional clip for Open Goal, Ferry explained how his attempt to sign Ure went:

“I asked our own to get his agent’s number, David Moss. He’s quite a big agent, he’s taken boys to Bayern Munich.

“Mick (Kennedy) told me to phone him to see what he was saying.

“I phoned him. ‘Hi David, it’s Si Ferry here. It’s the boy Robbie Ure. Listen I know it’s a long shot,’ and I just went on a massive spiel. ‘We’re top of the league, we’re playing really well, I think it’ll suit him, you can get clubs to come and watch him, even if it’s only until January’.

“Then he went ‘He’s just signed for Anderlecht this morning mate’.”

Anderlecht or East Kilbride?

Yeah, it’s a tough one that.

At Rangers, in the B team, age groups and even in the first team, you could see that Robbie Ure had something but that he was rough around the edges technically.

Moving to Europe gives him a great opportunity to develop these flaws because, at 6ft 3inches tall, you just know how Scottish clubs would have used him – including East Kilbride!
