Fashion Sakala might not have been everyone’s cup of team but his pace and numbers will be a miss from Rangers attack and, in Adama Traore, there is a free agent waiting to be snapped up.

The Spain international has never been prolific in terms of goals but he would terrorise Scottish defences and thrive in the open spaces of European football.

With Aston Villa said to be interested in the flying machine, Rangers would have to move fast for Adama Traore and overcome a sizeable stumbling block.

Rangers would have to dig deep to persuade Adama Traore to head to Ibrox

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger seemed like a certainty to be an early mover in the transfer window on a free transfer.

At 27-years old he is approaching his peak and has experience of the Premier League and La Liga.

His last reported weekly wage at Wolves would be an issue for Rangers though with Jack Butland on £40,000 according to Salary Sport and Adama Traore leaving behind a £53,000 per week contract.

A lower basic wage could be topped up with bonuses and after years of battling for a team that has struggled to make the top half of the table, the Spaniard might fancy competing at the sharp end for a team that dominates possession.

Against Kilmarnock, there was a distinct lack of pace in attack or someone willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The £3m for Fashion Sakala will come in useful but he leaves a hole in the attack and would, at least, bring an energy to the forward line.

Exactly the sort of quality that Traore, once described as “undefendable” by Jurgen Klopp, possesses.

Michael Beale has spoken about there being further additions and, looking at the current collection of forwards, there is definitely space for a player with searing pace and who can thrive in 1v1 situations.

In a competitive transfer market, there are few better available in terms of value than Adama Traore – if he is willing to sacrifice pay for prestige.
