River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo has been attributed as saying reported Rangers target Rafael Santos Borre will remain in Argentina – but all may not be as it appears.
As quoted by Argentine journalist Seba Ongarelli, Gallardo has allegedly claimed that “we will enjoy him a bit more” with regards Santos Borre.
This would put an end to weeks of speculation regarding the Colombia striker’s future with a contract stipulation meaning it’s unlikely to be completely resolved until July.
This is because reports coming out of the country have suggested that should River Plate sign the player before the expiration of his current deal on June 30th, they will owe former club Atletico Madrid £3m (€3.5m) [TyC Sports].
Reports suggest this has introduced something of a stand-off with Borre, 25, well aware of the situation and looking to cash in via way of a major wage bump.
However, these claims from Ongarelli could well be premature with the reputable La Nacion reporting earlier today that River are “concerned” about the possibility of losing the player.
Currently at the Copa America with Colombia, this report discusses the possible legal ramifications of letting the Atletico deal run down alongside the salary demands, signing on fee and sell on fee the player is likely to demand.
It also discusses the sporting goals of the player which realistically cannot be recognised in South America.
Rangers were first linked to the player by Football Insider but now a new report has emerged in Colombia, the nation of the player’s birth.

Interestingly, El Deportivo even claim that Rangers’ proposed offer to Rafael Santos Borre is more lucrative than that of Los Millonarios.
“Despite the intentions that River has,” the report begins, “in recent days it has been known that the Rangers of Scotland has in mind to present an economic proposal that would exceed that of the ‘Millionaire’ to take him back to Europe.”
Whilst this Colombian has been linked with a move to Rangers, the club’s resident Los Cafeteros star is being linked with a prominent move out of the club.
