Rangers chose not to sign Terem Moffi just a few years ago – and the striker is now being hailed as a ‘world class’ player for Nice.
It’s fair to say that Rangers have had some hits and misses in the transfer market over recent years.
Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey stand out as outstanding signings; cheap additions who ended up being worth millions.
There have been a few misses in terms of players who failed to impress at Ibrox, and misses in terms of opportunities that passed Rangers by.
One which springs to mind is Terem Moffi – although we can understand why Rangers didn’t snap him up…
Rangers reportedly passed on Terem Moffi deal
Back in 2020, Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Rangers were chasing Kortrijk striker Moffi.
It was suggested that Rangers were quoted around £4.5million for Moffi but weren’t keen on meeting the asking price.
We can understand this stance; at the time of the rumour, Moffi had only played nine times for Kortrijk, scoring four times following a January move from Lithuanian side Riteriai.
£4.5million on a striker with limited action in Belgium having only recently been in Lithuanian football would have felt like a big risk for Rangers at the time.
Lorient took the plunge though and their gamble paid off, with Moffi smashing 35 goals in 90 appearances.
Lorient allowed Moffi to join Nice earlier this year and the Nigerian striker just keeps going from strength to strength.

Moffi hailed as ‘world class’ after destroying PSG
Moffi has started the new season in decent form and Paris Saint-Germain certainly found that out last weekend.
The 24-year-old ripped PSG apart, bagging two goals and an assist in a shock 3-1 Nice win at the Parc des Princes.
Moffi ran riot in the French capital and has certainly impressed Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh.
Oliseh took to Twitter to hail Moffi as ‘world class’, believing that few strikers in the game right now can do what Moffi does in the Nice attack.
Moffi is a talent on the rise and whilst he still has some developing to do before reaching a top European club, he is certainly on the right path.
We can understand Rangers’ hesitation in 2020, but £4.5million for Moffi is now looking like an absolute bargain.
