France Football reports that former Rangers full-back Jon Flanagan is in talks with Ligue 2 club Amiens SC over a potential transfer.
The 27-year-old was released by the Gers earlier this summer along with Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham, Jak Alnwick, Jason Holt and Jordan Rossiter.
A former teammate of Steven Gerrard’s at Liverpool, Flanagan arrived at Ibrox on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 but never really managed to nail down a starting spot.
He made a total of 39 appearances, mainly at left-back, but had dropped well down the pecking order by the time the 2019/20 season was curtailed due to the global health crisis.
Several months of uncertainty as a free agent have followed but his next move could be just around the corner.
France Football have reported that he’s in discussions with Amiens, who were relegated to the French second tier at the end of last season.
Les Licornes, who are managed by Luka Elsner, lost their opening league fixture 2-1 to Paris FC on Saturday.
Interestingly, Rangers-linked midfielder Bongani Zungu [Glasgow Times] is on the books at Amiens, although the player recently claimed on social media that he is not playing for the club.
It’s certainly a surprise that Flanagan, who has spent his entire playing career in the UK, could be on his way to France, but with the 2020/21 season already well underway in many countries, he’ll no doubt be eager to join a new club.
