Fashion Sakala has maintained his fine form after leaving Rangers over the summer with eight goals and assists in just 12 games so far in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

What the Zimbabwe international lacks in terms of star power – sharing a pitch with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves and Aleksandr Mitrovic these days – he more than makes up for in potency.

Always something of a ‘streaky’ player during his time at Rangers – wonderful one minute and woeful the next – Fashion Sakala is performing with rare consistency over in the Middle East. He is yet to go more than two league games without a goal for his new employers.

If you’ll allow us, Sakala on fire in Al-Fayha. The thrilling 3-3 draw with Al-Tai last time out, meanwhile, was the second occasion in which the one-time Ibrox speedster has scored and assisted in the same match.

Fashion Sakala excelling after Rangers exit

With six goals and two assists from 12 outings, Sakala is outscoring Benzema, Riyad Mahrez and former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo.

The Arab News website labelled Al-Fayha’s £3 million acquisition a ‘brilliant’ signing at the start of the current campaign, and Sakala is certainly living up to such a billing.

Sakala left Rangers with a ‘heavy heart’ last summer after two seasons in Glasgow (STV). But a flying start to life at Al-Fayha, and the chance to compete in the prestigious Asian Champions League, has Sakala relishing a fresh start and a change of scenary.

A ‘brilliant’ signing

“I am happy to be part of a club which participates in the continental championship,” Sakala tells Awsat.

“I hope that we will continue to win points and go as far as possible in the tournament. This is something that will please our fans and we will certainly do everything we have for this ambition.”
