Former Celtic defender O’Dea denies involvement in McPake transfer

Darren O’Dea has posted on Twitter to refute claims he was heavily involved in Rangers youngster Josh McPake’s recent loan move to Dundee.

The Scotsman claimed in a report that the former Celtic and Dundee defender was ‘thought to have been instrumental’ in helping the 17-year-old secure a 6-month switch to Dens Park.

That apparently non-existent link was then picked up on by the Scottish Sun and it was that story which O’Dea called out.

Former Celtic defender O’Dea puzzled by links to Rangers transfer

The 32-year-old quoted the Scottish Sun’s tweet containing the articles, saying “Wish the boy the best and obviously wish Dundee the best, but I have absolutely no idea where this has come from. Never met him or seen him play.”

The post drew a lot of attention overnight, racking up close to 4000 likes. The Scottish Sun has subsequently deleted their article, but the reference to O’Dea is still in the Scotsman’s piece.

This is a bizarre scenario, where it appears a link has been fabricated from thin air.

McPake completed his loan switch on Tuesday morning and will wear no.17 at Dundee until January.

It’s an exciting move for the teenager who will be looking to continue on his fine goalscoring form from the beginning of the season. Unlike with Glenn Middleton’s move to Hibernian, plenty of Gers fans expressed their satisfaction with this temporary switch, with the perception being that McPake could star in the second tier.
