Rangers legend Barry Ferguson is desperate for Ross McCausland to sign a new deal at Ibrox amid interest from Serie A giants Roma and Atalanta and Premier League outfit Brentford.
Ferguson’s comments certainly echo what most of an Ibrox persuasion are thinking about a 20-year-old winger who has made quite the impact since Philippe Clement took over in Glasgow.
In a season full of firsts, Ross McCausland has started his first Scottish Premiership game in 2023/24, made his first appearance in Europe, and enjoyed his first outing for Northern Ireland too. Only a tight VAR call denied him a first Rangers goal as well, lashing into the roof of the net during an exhilarating display against Livingston before the November international break.
And with the pirates circling, looking to pillage the most glittering of gems from Clement’s treasure trove, Ferguson is desperate to see McCausland put an end to the speculation and put pen to paper.

Rangers hope to keep Ross McCausland
“There’s a contract on the table from Rangers,” Ferguson tells Go Radio, translated via Belfast Live. “So I’d like to think where he’s been given a chance, he’ll put pen to paper, and he’ll commit to a new contract at Rangers.
“He’s been a breath of fresh air, to be honest with you, since he’s come into the team. He’s come off the bench and did really well, got his first start against Livingston. I thought he was really good.
“I’d like to see him stay put, as I said. I always like to see young players come through the system. That’s what he’s done and, hopefully, he’ll sign a new deal.”
McCausland’s current deal expires in July 2024.
There is interest from Brentford, per the Daily Record. As well as Italian giants Roma and Atalanta (Tuttomercatoweb). McCausland is potentially available for as little as £400,000 in the winter window.
The prospect of Rangers losing a player of his potential and value Ferguson believes, doesn’t bare thinking about.
Premier League and Serie A interest
“He’s shown that he’s more than capable. Now it’s just about kicking on. ‘Can I go and cement a place in that Rangers team?,” adds the iconic Ibrox captain.
“He’s certainly got the attributes. Now, it’s just about making sure you keep your head down, feet on the ground. Work hard and try and become a regular.”
