Rangers are set to snap up striker Cyriel Dessers after agreeing a total package worth around €6.5million (£5.6million).

This one has been rumbling on for weeks now but Rangers are finally going to get Dessers on board.

The Cremonese striker has been Michael Beale’s top target for a long time now and it was starting to look like a deal may not happen.

We have seen Calciomercato claim that Dessers was snubbing Rangers to stay in Italy.

We have seen Tuttomercatoweb report that Rangers had failed with a loan-to-buy bid for Dessers.

Well, all of those reports can be thrown to one side with Rangers now on the verge of a breakthrough.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Dessers has completed his move to Rangers and it will be ‘done and sealed’ on Tuesday.

Romano adds that the exact worth of the deal is €6.5million (£5.6million) consisting of a €5million (£4.3million) fee and €1.5million (£1.3million) in add-ons.

An announcement is seemingly imminent with Rangers adding another attacking signing after Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima.

Rangers will be expecting big things from Cyriel Dessers

This is a major investment from Rangers and there will be immediate pressure on Dessers to hit the ground running.

£4.3million potentially rising to £5.6million is a hefty outlay for Rangers, especially on a 28-year-old.

This isn’t a signing with resale value in mind, this is a signing all about the here and now.

Dessers is being brought in to score goals, plain and simple.

That kind of fee is not to be sniffed at and Beale will be relying on Dessers to find the net regularly during his time at Ibrox.

The Nigeria international is a burly presence up top and whilst he may look clumsy at times, he is a proven goalscorer.

Just look at his record; 29 goals in 40 games for NAC Breda. 19 goals in 56 games for Utrecht. 18 goals in 29 games for Heracles Almelo. 20 goals in 41 games for Feyenoord.

Dessers has proven time and again that he knows where the net is and he even did it in Italy last season.

Seven goals in 29 games may not sound incredible but Cremonese finished second-bottom of Serie A and Dessers was one of only four players to score more than two league goals for the club last season.

Rangers need Dessers to get going immediately and the hope is that he can hit the goal trail once again, this time in Glasgow.
