Fabrizio Romano: ex-Rangers youth lined up for Man United move

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Man United and Crystal Palace are leading the hunt for ex-Rangers youth Malcolm Ebiowei.

Ebiowei, 18, has impressed at Derby County under Wayne Rooney and made 16 appearances for the club as they valiantly battled an inevitable Championship relegation.

But for Rangers fans reading this story they’ll be thinking about what might’ve been as some of the Premier League’s top clubs turn their attention to the young winger.

As claimed in the Guardian, Fabrizio Romano believes that Man United and Crystal Palace are “ahead of other suitors” in the hunt for the out-of-contract teenager, who has represented the Netherlands and England at youth level.

Ligue 1 Monaco have also been cited as an interested party.

But it’s the links to Man United that will have most sitting up and taking notice regarding Malcolm Ebiowei amid an exciting summer at Old Trafford.

Ex-Rangers kid Malcolm Ebiowei linked to Man United

The Red Devils have just appointed Dutch coach Erik ten Hag after a successful stint at Ajax and there is expected to be some sizeable investment in Manchester.

This makes the project an exciting one for any player and perhaps Malcolm Ebiowei will be tempted by the lure of helping to restore one of the game’s global giants to former glories.

Formerly of Arsenal’s youth Academy, Malcolm Ebiowei joined the Ibrox youth academy in 2020 but within a year was back in England plying his trade for Derby County.

It’s proven to be the right move for the youngster who broke into Rooney’s cash-strapped side last season and is clearly making others stand up and take notice.

Rangers might well rue letting the youngster leave after only one season and should the lure of Man United prove too much we could see Malcolm Ebiowei turning out at Old Trafford before we ever did at Ibrox.

Meanwhile, one Premier League talent being linked to Rangers has just signed a new deal elsewhere.
