Rangers will not be signing Emmanuel Dennis this month with the Nigerian forward now on the verge of a surprise return to Watford.

A number of Rangers transfer rumours have been ruled out of late.

Rangers were interested in Philadelphia Union left back Kai Wagner but he has chosen to sign a new contract in Major League Soccer.

Another left back was on the radar with Benfica misfit David Jurasek wanted, though he has now signed for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

There now appears to be another rumour to kill off with forward Emmanuel Dennis seemingly not heading for Ibrox, barring a shock turn of events.

Reports earlier in January suggested that Nigeria international Dennis could be on his way to Glasgow.

Dennis worked under Gers boss Philippe Clement at Club Brugge and a reunion was floated as Rangers targeted attacking additions.

Dennis dazzled in the Premier League during the 2021-22 season, hitting 10 goals for Watford before joining Nottingham Forest.

That move really didn’t work out and Dennis now finds himself on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.

The 26-year-old has only managed eight appearances due to injury problems and it looks like his time in Istanbul is coming to an end.

Yet instead of signing for Rangers, Dennis looks poised for a surprise move – a return to Watford.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Dennis has agreed to rejoin the Hornets on loan until the end of the season with a stunning return to Vicarage Road now imminent.

Romano adds that a medical will take place on Tuesday with Dennis now poised for a move to England’s second tier.

Maybe Rangers really did want Dennis, maybe the rumours were just a case of adding two and two together given his history under Clement.

Either way, Dennis – who cost Forest a cool £20million in 2022 – will not be signing for Rangers this month and will instead attempt to rediscover his magic touch at Watford.
