Rangers signing a £35m player before the transfer window opened is not what fans would have been expecting and get the arrival of Fabio Silva has done just that.

A player with the 21-year old’s profile certainly kicks off the window in exciting fashion and the draw of Ibrox has once again proven to be a valuable recruitment tool.

Speaking to Rangers when the deal was announced, Fabio Silva explained that, despite the competition for his signature from Celtic, there was only one place where he wanted to play his football.

Rangers new signing Fabio Silva says all the right things

Europa League nights at Ibrox can be special and the game that Silva played in for Porto was a special occasion.

We can all remember the goal that Alfredo Morelos scored with Ryan Jack providing the assist.

Fabio Silva will be hoping that he can provide similar moments of magic after his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers as Rangers look to kick on from the momentum gained under new Gers boss Philippe Clement.

“Everyone knows I have other options at other clubs, but Rangers was my first option.

“When we speak about Scotland, Rangers for me was the best team here.”

This sort of statement can go one of two ways.

Yes, it is the sort of thing that fans will love but it is also the sort of thing that can come back and haunt players.

Thankfully, Rangers have the calibre of player in Fabio Silva who can back up what he says with what he does on the pitch.

A forward line featuring Abdallah Sima, Todd Cantwell, Fabio Silva and Danilo is starting to look like one capable of winning the league title.

Silva might think that Rangers are the best team in Scotland but it is now down to him and his teammates to prove that we actually are.
